General Notes about Competitions

At Carshalton Rifle Club nobody will ever be forced in to taking part in any competitions, however if you wish to take part in a competition, the club will whole-heartedly support you.

You do not necessarily have to be a great shot to compete, there are many competitions for people of all abilities.

Different types.

There are three main types of competitions at Carshalton, the first are the internal competitions which are run by our statistics officer, where you shoot a set amount of cards and will be shooting against other club members. There are also other internal competitions run for weekend disciplines such as Black powder, Field target, Full-bore and Shotgun. These competitions have their own individual course of fire as determined by their respective captains.

Secondly we have postal competitions which are normally run on a county level, again you are given a set amount of cards to shoot, but this time you are shooting against other people in the county, most of whom you are never likely to meet. The cards, once shot, or the scores if they are marked internally are then sent off and collated by someone else.

Thirdly are the competitions where you shoot against yourself. These types of competition are postal and are available in most disciplines but do require you to be of quite a high standard in your chosen discipline. They usually consist of 3 cards that all have to be shot on the same day. Depending on how well you shoot, you can win badges that declare you for example 'A Marksman' or 'A Master Shot'.

Shoulder to Shoulder

We do from time to time have what are called shoulder to shoulder competitions where either another club comes to Carshalton or members of Carshalton go to another club to shoot side by side. If you think you would be interested in this type of competition, let your Captain know so that it can be organised.
If you are an outside club looking for a challenge, please contact our secretary from the contacts page.
